Hallowmas – Saturday, November 1 (NOT a Holyday of Obligation in 2025):
When Hallowmas falls on a Saturday, as it does this year, it is not a holyday of obligation in the United States per USCCB rules.
A plenary indulgence, applicable only to the Holy Souls of Purgatory, is available each day from Hallowmas through its octave (Sat. Nov. 8) to the faithful who visit a cemetery and pray for the dead. The usual conditions apply: on the day of the indulgenced act, or within about 20 days thereof, receiving sacramental confession and Holy Communion, and praying for the traditional intentions of the Holy Father (an Our Father and a Hail Mary are suggested), all with an interior disposition of complete detachment from sin, even venial sin. Should the disposition of detachment from sin be incomplete, a partial indulgence is gained in proportion to the actual degree of detachment.
As outlined in the Raccolta, the six traditional intentions of the Holy Father are: (1) the exaltation of the Church; (2) the propagation of the Faith; (3) the extirpation of heresy; (4) the conversion of sinners; (5) the concord between Christian princes; and (6) the further welfare of the Christian people.

21st Sunday after Pentecost – Sunday, November 2
Because the proper date of All Souls Day falls on a Sunday this year, it is transferred to the following Monday and the Mass of the Sunday will be celebrated on November 2. The usual Sunday TLM schedule will be followed. At St. Anthony Mission in King George, it will be Gotcha! Sunday: there will be no 1 p.m. Mass.
Special event:
St. Mary of Sorrows Historic Church and Cemetery, Fairfax Station (Diocese of Arlington)
Vespers & Litany for the Dead at 7 p.m.
Organized by the Northern Virginia Divine Office Society
Note: Enter the address directly into your GPS: 5612 Ox Rd, Fairfax Station, VA. The present-day church is at a different location.
All Souls Day – transferred to Monday, November 3:
In addition to the daily plenary indulgence available from Hallowmas through its octave (Wed. Nov. 8), on All Souls Day there is an additional opportunity to gain a plenary indulgence, again applicable only to the Holy Souls of Purgatory, to the faithful who visit any Catholic church or public oratory and pray at least one Our Father and the Creed. The same usual conditions apply. On this day, each individual may receive either the daily novena indulgence or the specific All Souls Day indulgence, but not both, since under current canon law, one may receive a maximum of one plenary indulgence per day.
